Full circle moment: Decades apart, NICU nurse and patient reunite through new generation

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Every parent prays they’ll never hear the words, “Your baby needs to spend some time in the NICU.”

For Mom Madison Smith, those words brought a wave of overwhelming uncertainty, compounded by a haunting sense of déjà vu. She was back in a place where her own story began, decades ago, never imagining the extraordinary reunion that awaited her.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Bon Secours St. Francis is a familiar place. “My mom had actually told me when I was younger,” Madison recounts, “she was like, you know… you were like the first baby in the NICU at Saint Francis when it opened, and she said, yeah and I said well that’s kinda neat.”…
