The father of 16-year-old Michael Ray Berry has filed a lawsuit against the city of Sacramento and Sacramento Regional Transit. Berry died after being stabbed by a SacRT employee during a dispute over vaping on a train in Rancho Cordova, according to KCRA.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s office has decided not to file criminal charges against the SacRT employee. They said there was not enough evidence “to sustain a conviction under the ‘guilt beyond a reasonable doubt’ standard.” They also noted that “Furthermore, the individual has a valid self-defense claim,” because the teenager was said to have run toward the employee, creating reasonable fear of immediate harm, as reported by KCRA…
