Wildfire burns in St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, FHP says

A wildfire was burning in St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge the morning of Nov. 13, causing smoke to blanket that part of Wakulla County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

FHP said it had to temporarily close a section of U.S. 98 because of reduced visibility but troopers were able to reopen the roadway shortly before 9:30 a.m.

According to an FHP spokesperson, the fire was first reported at 6 a.m. It was centered about two miles east of Wakulla County’s Newport community…
