BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Louisiana Bar Foundation hosted an event at Ruffino’s in Downtown Baton Rouge, highlighting the free civil legal aid they’re giving to people who need it most.
The Louisiana Bar Foundation promotes civil legal aid, access to justice, and law-related education by funding organizations that provide free civil legal services for the poor in our state.“We also provide funding to the law schools to promote legal education, and the goal there is to increase the number of attorneys who will enter public interest law or public service,” said LBF President Edmund Giering.
He said the main reason for the Baton Rouge event is to report on the impact of the foundation’s grants over the past year and outline plans for the future.“While people are entitled to representation in a criminal case, they are not necessarily entitled to a lawyer in a civil matter. So, this funding goes to organizations that provide those services,” Giering mentioned.
