Goodbye empty lots, hello new parks: Hillcrest’s big comeback begins

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The long-awaited Harbor Bridge parks mitigation project in Corpus Christi’s Hillcrest community is finally breaking ground, bringing millions of dollars in improvements that will completely transform one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods.

After years of planning between the city and the state, construction crews are now ready to begin work on four major park projects as part of a $26 million effort to restore amenities lost during the Harbor Bridge construction. A brand new $10 million swimming pool complex will also be built along Winnebago Street to replace the community pool that was demolished as part of the bridge project.
