The Boise School District sent a statement out Wednesday saying that the girl who was fatally struck by a pickup truck late Tuesday afternoon in the North End was a student at Washington Elementary School.
The school district said in an email about the “tragic incident” that it was providing resources to the school community, with counselors available to students, staff and families. It did not say what grade the girl, who was hit while trying to cross Harrison Boulevard, was in.
“In moments like this, we are reminded of the vulnerability of the young people we serve and of the shared responsibility we all hold in keeping students safe — whether they are walking, biking, riding the bus, or traveling in any way on our city’s streets,” the email read. Community members have put up a memorial for the girl with flowers, ribbons and signs at the intersection of Harrison and Ada Street.
According to the Boise Police Department, the girl and pickup both were going west on Ada Street when they stopped at the intersection at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The girl and the truck both entered the intersection, and as the vehicle was turning right onto Harrison, it hit her…
