‘Dust in the Wind’ greets patrons of long-awaited, crazy-packed Hard Rock Tejon Casino

METTLER, Calif. (KGET) — The Hard Rock Tejon’s grand opening went pretty well, but it wasn’t perfect. Perfect would have meant changing up the dedication ceremony’s musical soundtrack to include the song “Dust in the Wind” – because there was plenty of both, dust and wind.

Poetic, sure, but not particularly desirable. What was desirable was the huge line to get in. In fact, the multitude surely exceeded expectations. They lined up hours before Thursday’s noontime opening and were still streaming in all day long, with traffic backed up on frontage roads and on Highway 99.

Aggravating sure, but this kind of thing tends to make up for frustration: Not 20 minutes passed after the front doors opened before Cesley Edwards of Bakersfield let out a whoop — several whoops — celebrating the day’s first slot machine jackpot, as far as we could tell. Her winnings were $1,410, after a $20 investment.

“I put in $20 dollars!” she screamed…
