Popular antique stores could be forced out of longtime Sligh building home

An upcoming court ruling could force three popular antique stores to leave the historic Grand Rapids Sligh Furniture Co. building where they’ve operated for more than a decade.

The court-appointed receiver over the 145-year-old former factory eyed for a major redevelopment filed a motion on Oct. 14 to close the building at 211 Logan St. SW.

John Polderman, a member of Southfield-based Stevenson & Bullock PLC’s receivership practice group, claims immediate safety issues stemming from damage to the building’s roof are estimated to cost $1.4 million to repair, while the building’s broken supporting beams are a danger to tenants.
