Toledo Public Schools announces temporary shutdown of Head Start services

Toledo Public Schools says the district is being forced to pause a majority of its Head Start and Early Childhood Education programs because of the prolonged government shutdown.

The temporary suspension will affect more than 1,000 students enrolled in TPS-sponsored programs, as well as 124 employees.

Head Start is funded directly by the federal government and goes to local Head Start grant recipients, which are renewed annually at different grant cycles. The Toledo Public School District is a lead federal grant recipient for Head Start. It receives $16.7 million every year on Dec. 1, when its annual grant cycle begins…
