JXN Water rate increase faces opposition from city leaders

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with JXN Water and the City of Jackson returned to federal court on November 13, 2025, for a hearing on a 12% water rate increase.

Interim Third-Party Manager Ted Henifin proposed a 12% rate increase, which would raise the average residential bill from $9 to about $11 a month. He said the increase would help stabilize and maintain the capital city’s water system.

According to Henifin, the system cannot survive on current revenue, and the city still owes outstanding debt.
