Omaha Residents Urged to Watch for Utility Worker Impersonation Scam

The Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) has warned customers about a recent scam involving someone impersonating a utility employee. The incident happened when a man knocked on a customer’s door in Omaha. He claimed to be from OPPD and offered to install a new meter. When the customer asked for identification, the man left after being denied entry.

OPPD stated that real employees always carry identification badges. Some contractors may not have utility badges, but customers can verify anyone claiming to represent OPPD by calling 402-536-4131 (Omaha area) or 1-877-536-4131 (outside Omaha). Customers should not let anyone into their homes without proper verification.

OPPD also reminded customers that utility scams are a nationwide problem. Scammers may call and ask for personal or financial information. OPPD advises customers to hang up on suspicious calls and contact the utility directly to check account details…
