Hillsboro teen raises $30K to support families impacted by ICE raids

A Hillsboro High School student who pleaded with city councilors to take action amid mounting immigration enforcement in Washington County is now turning his words into action.

Moved by the fear and uncertainty gripping his community, 16-year-old Manny Chavez launched a fundraising effort this month that has raised over $30,000 from more than 480 donations as of Thursday, Nov. 13 — less than a week since it was posted.
