ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Locals enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) started to receive their benefits this week. This came after the program was embroiled in legal troubles, as the administration withheld funds during that record-long shutdown.
Amid the uncertainty NEWS10 caught up with a local non-profit that’s fed the community and wants to expand those efforts.

Some said their EBT cards were refilled earlier this week and others said they received those benefits on Thursday. Payments went out after some states, including New York, sued the administration over withholding funds for the food program during the 43-day government shutdown.
