New dollar store confirmed in part of the vacated space
GLENMONT — Staples, the office supply and printing store, will shutter its Route 9W store in Glenmont on Nov. 21. Until then the store’s inventory prices, except for certain items like printer ink, toner and laptop computers are slashed 50%.
The company posted notice of its store closing on its windows and referred customers to its remaining Capital District stores in Rensselaer, Albany and Latham. Bethlehem Senior Economic Developer Brianne Connor, although she has not been advised by Staples, believes the closing reflects a nationwide trend of companies whose businesses have been hard hit by on-line shopping consolidating their brick and mortar presence.
