Baltimore County woman gets 38 months in prison for impersonating nurses at over 40 Maryland facilities

BALTIMORE, MD—A Baltimore County woman has been sentenced to 38 months in federal prison for orchestrating a four-year scheme in which she fraudulently posed as a licensed nurse at more than 40 healthcare facilities across Maryland, announced U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes.

Thomasina E. Amponsah, 51, of Baltimore County, received the sentence Thursday, November 13, 2025, from U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett. She pleaded guilty to making false statements in connection with health care matters and aggravated identity theft.

Amponsah, who never held a nursing license or professional credential of her own, used stolen Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licenses belonging to two separate victims to secure employment…
