Jefferson County deputy charged with DUI assault to make court appearance

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A Jefferson County deputy accused of DUI assault is scheduled to make her first court appearance Wednesday morning.

Shamonte Desirae Lanfair, who was off-duty at the time, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when she ran a red light and crashed into 22-year-old Kayla Williams on October 8.

Video of the crash shows a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department vehicle running a red light with its lights on, but siren not activated. The sheriff’s vehicle narrowly avoids a collision with a school bus before crashing into a Toyota Corolla driven by Williams on Hwy 75.
