Arrest made in campus shooting of Bay Area coaching legend John Beam

LATEST, Friday Nov. 14, 10:50 a.m. The suspect arrested in connection with the shooting of Oakland football coach John Beam has been identified by multiple outlets as Cedric Irving Jr. The San Francisco Chronicle cited “a person familiar with the investigation,” reporting that the Irving Jr. allegedly confessed to Oakland police about the shooting, adding that he knew Beam.

Irving Jr. previously attended Skyline High School and participated on the Varsity Football team from 2015-2016, where Beam once coached from 1987 to 2004, though they did not overlap.
