Madison ex-fire captain indicted on felony animal cruelty charges

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A Madison County grand jury has indicted former Madison Fire Department Captain Brandon Magill on felony animal cruelty charges, according to court records filed last Friday.

The indictment moves forward a case that has drawn significant attention since Magill’s initial arrest earlier this year on allegations he tortured and caused the death of a German Shepherd puppy.

Background of the Case

According to court documents filed in March, Magill’s arrest stemmed from a February 18 incident in which Huntsville Police investigators allege he tortured and “caused the death of a German Shepherd puppy.” The information was detailed in a sworn statement by a Huntsville Police Department investigator.

Magill was initially charged with a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty but prosecutors later upgraded the charge to felony status. Following the upgrade, the Madison Fire Department announced Magill’s termination from his position as captain.
