Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass Announces First Approvals Under New Standard Plan Pilot to Rebuild Pacific Palisades Faster

Mayor Karen Bass has recently hit a new milestone in Los Angeles’ efforts to rebuild the fire-ravaged Pacific Palisades by announcing the first approvals under the city’s Standard Plan Pilot Program. This initiative is part of a broader set of emergency actions aimed at quickly reestablishing homes, businesses, and community spaces in the area. As noted by Mayor Bass’ office, the program provides a library of pre-approved, code-compliant single-family home designs that have dramatically reduced both permitting times and the associated costs.

Under Mayor Bass’ directive, the plan check process for eligible structures is to swiftly move and permit issuance, thereby cutting traditionally lengthy review times. More than 340 construction projects have been confirmed to have started in Pacific Palisades, signaling a robust response to the expedited process. “The City of Los Angeles remains laser-focused on expediting the rebuilding of homes, businesses, and community spaces in the Palisades to get families home, no matter what it takes,” Mayor Bass stated.

Since the devastating wildfires, Los Angeles has moved to approve rebuilding permits nearly three times quicker than before, eliminating the need for more than 70% of single-family permit clearances. This streamlined process has resulted in over 1,200 rebuilding plans approved and 1,000+ permits issued for various addresses in Pacific Palisades.
