WEST PALM BEACH — When millions lost their food stamps in November as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program money ran out during the government shutdown, the county’s largest homeless outreach service went on the hunt to find a way to get more meals to the people who needed them.
The solution cooked up by The Lord’s Place included a $15,000 donation from GL Homes. CEO Christine Frederick secured the donation, using the money to buy food to make dinners and deliver them to The Lord’s Place’s family campus, where about 115 people live, and the nonprofit’s other campuses three days a week.
The nonprofit’s staff is using a bus with food warmers on it to deliver 450 extra meals a week. They previously used the bus only to bring meals to Belle Glade every Friday and to Riviera Beach once a month…
