SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Savannah State University is marking a major milestone this morning.Founders Day is one of the school’s biggest traditions – celebrating its legacy as Georgia’s oldest public HBCU. This year’s ceremony is bringing together students, alumni, and leaders from across the country.
The university was founded back in 1890, and today’s event highlights the impact it continues to have on students and the community here. The 135th Founders Day celebration starts this morning inside Tiger Arena. This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Tomikia LeGrande, who is now the President of Prairie View A&M University and was a 2001 Savannah State graduate.
Dr. Legrande will also receive the Richard R. Wright Award of Excellence, which is the University’s highest honor. Staff said Thursday’s ceremony is a time to reflect on the SSU’s legacy and inspire current students to continue that tradition…
