EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man who is facing a murder charge is accused of stabbing another man over 20 times at a DK convenience store in South Central El Paso on Tuesday, Nov. 11, according to court documents obtained by KTSM 9 News.
Man arrested for fatal stabbing at DK convenience store, police say
Manuel Ivan Gutierrez, 30, is accused of repeatedly stabbing 44-year-old Juan Francisco Gomez during the attack, which unfolded just before 10 a.m. at the DK store located at 5600 Alameda.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators shows Gutierrez arriving at the store in a white pickup truck, parking in front, and briefly going inside to purchase an item before returning to the parking lot. Minutes later, Gomez arrived separately and entered the store. Gutierrez followed him inside shortly thereafter.
According to court documents, Gomez was speaking with the clerk at the front counter when Gutierrez positioned himself behind him near the entrance. As Gomez turned to leave, Gutierrez allegedly pulled out a large knife with both hands and swung at him. Gomez was struck once in the chest and collapsed to the floor.
Investigators say Gutierrez then approached Gomez and continued stabbing him multiple times while standing over him. Gomez attempted to defend himself by raising his arms and kicking, eventually managing to get back to his feet. However, Gutierrez allegedly continued the assault, stabbing Gomez several more times and causing him to fall again, knocking over a display in the process.
