Sedgwick County Zoo announces death of caracal

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Sedgwick County Zoo is mourning the death of Kibo, a caracal.

The zoo said Thursday that his health had been declining over the past several weeks, so the zoo decided to humanely euthanize him.

Kibo was the only caracal — a wildcat — at the zoo, and officials said his exhibit will remain empty until a decision is made about the future of the space.

A short-tailed wildcat with long, black-tipped ears, caracals are native to the hills, plains and desert regions of Africa, the Middle East and central and southeast Asia. Caracals can grow to a height of up to 18 inches and a length of up to 30 inches, and can jump up to 10 feet in the air with a single leap…
