ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man received his sentence on Wednesday for a drunk driving crash that left one person dead. Jesus Sandoval-Martinez was speeding, ran through a red light, and crashed into two cars. Martinez tried to flee the scene on foot but was chased down and detained by witnesses until police arrived. Volleyball coaches Tiger Gutierrez and Mia Montoya were driving when Sandoval-Martinez hit them. The crash killed Gutierrez and seriously injured Montoya.

When examined four hours after the incident, Martinez had a blood alcohol content of .16, still above the legal limit. He was charged with multiple felonies, including homicide by vehicle DWI. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
