Anchorage residents are being asked to help keep fire hydrants clear this winter as snow begins to accumulate across the city.
The Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility says its Hydrant Crew is just eight people, responsible for maintaining about 7,500 hydrants from Eklutna to Girdwood. While the team works hard, heavy or prolonged snowfall can make it difficult to keep all hydrants accessible.
