On Thursday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia sentenced Cedric Carr, 34, to 33 months in prison for the possession of a firearm while on supervised release. Court documents showed that the incident transpired on October 27, 2024, when Carr was caught by Metropolitan Police officers outside the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station, holding a bottle of red wine and attempting to conceal a Smith & Wesson pistol in his waistband. The U.S. District Court Judge tasked with the case also determined that Carr must serve an additional three years of supervised release after his prison term, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The confrontation was initiated as officers noted Carr drinking in public. A routine request for identification led quickly to the discovery of the weapon, which was confirmed to have been stolen from Atlanta, according to a statement by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. This occurrence unfolded while Carr was already on supervised release for a previous 2018 conviction, where he had been sentenced to 84 months for using a firearm during a crime of violence.
The firearm possession plea was entered on February 20, and Carr was handed down his sentence this past October.
