Alcoa Highway, UT-New Mexico State game expected traffic impacts: What to know

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — From a widening project in Hamblen County to a step forward in the Alcoa Highway Project and events like the University of Tennessee game will impact drivers in East Tennessee this weekend. 6 News anchor Bo Williams is breaking down what drivers need to know to be prepared.

The Volunteers are playing at Neyland Stadium on Saturday. Starting at 5 a.m., Peyton Manning Pass and Phillip Fulmer Way from Cumberland Avenue to Lake Loudon Boulevard will be closed to protect fans during the Vol Walk, reduce congestion, and improve safety in the busiest areas near the stadium. The game against New Mexico State is set to kick off at 4:15 p.m., and the Vol Walk will begin at 2 p.m. Drivers should be aware of increased traffic in and around downtown Knoxville.

City of Alcoa asking for public input in Safe Streets survey

This weekend is also homecoming at UT, and a parade will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday. Road closures for the parade will begin at 2 p.m., when the eastbound lanes of Volunteer Boulevard from Todd Helton Drive to Pat Head Summitt Street will be closed for the parade line-up. At 3:30 p.m., Volunteer Boulevard will be closed in both directions from Pat Head Summitt Street to Peyton Manning Pass. Roads will reopen at the conclusion of the parade at 5 p.m.

On Sunday at 8 p.m., the exit ramp from northbound Alcoa Highway to John Sevier Highway will be shifted to its permanent alignment. This comes as work on the multiyear Alcoa Highway corridor project stretches on.

Hamblen County road expansion aims to keep up with growing population

The Tennessee Department of Transportation also shared its weekly construction report, covering 24 East Tennessee counties, for November 14 to 19, 2025. Drivers are encouraged to expect delays and use extreme caution when workers are present.

In Sevierville, two portions of the Parkway and Collier Drive will close on Saturday, November 15, for the NASCAR SpeedPark Color Me Mutt 5k road race. The following closures will take place from 8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.:

  • Parkway northbound right travel lane from New Era Road to Collier Drive
  • Collier Drive eastbound right lane from Parkway to Ridge Road

In addition to road work, gas prices in Tennessee have held steady over the last week, falling around a penny on average. AAA expects prices to remain stable through the month. The state average on Friday is $2.694. Across the state, Nashville had the most expensive average gas price at $2.764, and Morristown had the least expensive at $2.618.
