Crews still working to extinguish Lignite and Bald Mountain wildfires

BOTETOURT/CRAIG COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Crews are still working to tame the Lignite and Bald Mountain wildfires that have charred portions of Botetourt and Craig counties, according to the United States Forest Service.

The Bald Mountain Fire:

  • 4,374 acres burned
  • 80% contained

Lignite Wildfire:

  • 180 acres burned
  • 95% contained

Resources from the USDA Forest Service, Department of Interior, and local fire and emergency services from both Craig and Botetourt counties supporting the incident includes a total of 93 personnel.

Firefighters patrolled the entire fire perimeter and gridded the area for heat signatures. All containment lines were secure at end of shift and held securely. Resource advisors are assigned to the incident to identify suppression repair needs…
