Since 1981, Ten Thousand Villages has sold ethically sourced goods from artisan makers in 30 countries. Executive Director Jillian Christy says on Saturday they will be rebranded as Handspoken Fair Trade and will host its official relaunch party from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the corner of 8th and P streets in the Haymarket.
The event is free and open to the public and will include a 25% off holiday sale, short dedication ceremony, live music, henna tattoos, plus cookies and cocoa all day. Christy tells KLIN News while the name is changing, their mission is not.
“We’re working with artisan makers across 30 different countries all over the world,” Christy says. “These folks have skills and talents, they just don’t access to a marketplace that’s going to pay them a living wage to support themselves and their families.”…
