Final Traffic Shift for Council Bluffs Interstate Project Set for November 17

The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) has announced the final traffic shift for the Council Bluffs Interstate System Improvement Program. The shift for the I-80/I-29/I-480 corridor in Council Bluffs is scheduled for the night of November 17, 2025. This marks the near completion of the project.

Iowa DOT District 4 Engineer Scott Schram said the program has improved the region’s transportation network. The project began in 2008 and has worked on about 14 miles of interstate. It included upgrades to interchanges, bridges, and traffic flow to improve safety and support local growth.

On November 17, eastbound I-80 will close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the final traffic configuration. The interstate is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on November 18. Some lane closures will continue into spring for permanent markings…
