DC man pleads guilty to murdering girlfriend, disposing body in mall dumpster

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A D.C. man pleaded guilty in October for murdering his ex-girlfriend in April, the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia announced Friday.

According to the USAO, 57-year-old Richard Dyson killed 63-year-old Donnella Bryan on or around April 15, 2025. Prosecutors said that he hit her in the head, then suffocated her with a sock at the Press House Apartments in Northeast D.C.

The USAO said that Dyson bought a large container and, with the help of an accomplice who is now dead, disposed of Bryan’s body in that container by disposing of it in a dumpster at Hetchinger Mall.
