‘It’s crazy’ | Victims of random shooting in Aurora struggle with injuries, belief that system let them down

AURORA, Colo. — The only way to quantify the damage done by five bullets fired from an AK-47 is to ask Aryn Johnson – gunned down in June 2024 in front of her Aurora home – to describe her wounds.

“My stomach was open like that,” she said, holding her hands about a foot apart, describing a gaping wound that doctors stapled shut.

Reaching for her left side, she said, “I have a bullet hole right here. … I had one in my hand that healed – they took the shrapnel out.”…
