Gig Harbor woman funds ad campaign to push Pierce County to pay deputies competitively

GIG HARBOR, Wash. — A woman who lives in unincorporated Pierce County says a fight between the sheriff’s guild and the county executive’s office over how much deputies are paid is putting her and her neighbors in danger.

Ann Jolie of Gig Harbor is now using her own money to fund an ad campaign to put pressure on Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello to increase what the county is offering in a new contract with the Pierce County Deputy Sheriff’s Guild.

“[Mello] is the one who can fix this tomorrow, and they just need to hear from us, and hear from us in force,” Jolie told KOMO News. “This is an issue that isn’t a political issue, even though politics always get involved; it’s a safety issue, and I think we deserve better.”…
