Anchorage man volunteers in Bethel to help Typhoon Halong survivors

One Anchorage man is taking time off work this week to help storm survivors in Western Alaska.

Brad Schmitz traveled to Bethel, one of the communities hit hardest by the remnants of Typhoon Halong, to volunteer with the local food bank. He told Your Alaska Link that the operation is in need of all hands, especially for sorting and packing boxes of food and supplies.

Speaking with Your Alaska Link before heading to Bethel, Schmitz shared his excitement about the trip. “I’ve never been to that part of Alaska to begin with. I’ve never been to Bethel or anywhere down in that part of the state. I’ve never been in an active part of disaster recovery in any capacity,” he said…
