Key Updates for Cumberland County Residents: Water Supply, Public Health, and Shelter Services Discussed at Nov. 13 Commissioners Meeting

On November 13, 2025, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners held a regular agenda session at the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Commissioner Marshall Faircloth led the meeting, which began at 4 p.m., and opened with the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. The Board approved the agenda after making changes, including moving and removing items and adding a discussion on unhoused providers and operational budgets.

The Board discussed water resource management. Amanda Lee, General Manager for Natural Resources, presented information about the State of North Carolina’s review of an interbasin transfer certificate for the Town of Fuquay-Varina. Board members and Public Works Commission representatives raised concerns about the impact on the Cape Fear River Basin’s water supply, possible increases in pollutant concentration, and limits on future county growth. The Board directed staff to draft a resolution opposing the transfer for consideration at the next meeting on November 17, 2025. Robert Van Geons, President and CEO of the Fayetteville Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, gave a report on the Black Voices Museum, including its mission, community engagement, and plans.
