Nov. 14 (UPI) — Police identified the person who allegedly shot and killed John Beam, the Laney College athletic director who was featured in the Netflix series Last Chance U, officials announced Friday afternoon.
Beam, who was taken to Highland Hospital in critical condition after being shot in the day before, died about 10 a.m. Friday, police told reporters at a press briefing.
Police identified the alleged shooter during the briefing as 27-year-old Cedric Irving Jr., whom they arrested early Friday at a transit station in San Leandro, Calif., about 20 minutes away from the college, The New York Times reported.
