Erie, PA. – Nov. 10, 2025, marks 50 years since the Edmund Fitzgerald wrecked due to still unknown causes in Lake Superior.
The Edmund Fitzgerald was an American Great Lakes freighter originally launched from Detroit in 1958. She became known as one of the largest and fastest freighters amongst the Great Lakes at 729 feet, along with the ability to sail at 16 MPH thanks to her 7,500-horsepower steam turbine engine.
