Habitat for Humanity provides hope, homeownership for Montgomery County residents in need

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — One phone call can change a life, and it has for more than 100 families who have been chosen for Habitat for Humanity homes over the past three decades in Montgomery County.

“That is the greatest day of my entire year: the day we get to make the phone calls to the families. It’s like it’s Christmas, and it’s us opening the gift, not them opening the gift, but I think it’s probably Christmas Day for those families as well,” said Kate Gauf, Director of Operations and Interim Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County.

“In order for them to qualify, they do have to meet minimum financial requirements, show a need for adequate housing, meaning they’re rent-burdened, the home is substandard, or they are sharing a space and/or homeless,” Gauf explained.

Gauf said they received 188 applications this year, 25 families qualified, then 12 were chosen for home visits…
