‘Keep the peace’: Jacksonville international grocer withdraws request to build halal meat processing plant after pushback

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A long fixture in Jacksonville’s Beach Boulevard shopping scene formally withdrew its request to build a halal meat-processing facility on its Beach Boulevard property after months of community pushback and zoning wrangling to “keep the peace,” according to the owner of Apna Bazar.

Mohammad Faisal owns the international grocer, Apna Bazar, that’s served the First Coast since it opened in the early 2000s, expanding from its original Orlando location.
