Former lovers arrested after argument over missing phone turns violent

A pair of former lovers from Fruitland Park were arrested on battery charges Monday after an argument over a missing phone allegedly turned physical.

Michael Worrell, 24, returned to his home on South Grays Airport Road after a night out only to see his ex-boyfriend, 37-year-old Damian Justin Summers, on the property without permission, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He claimed Summers was using his grandmother’s phone and laptop to find his missing phone. He told Summers to leave several times, sparking a verbal argument.

At the time, Summers was standing next to his truck holding a small axe that he had gotten from inside the shed where Worrell lived. Worrell recorded the altercation on his phone, but he was not afraid of being hit by the axe. After several minutes of arguing back and forth, Worrell went to walk back to his shed when he claimed Summers drove forward and hit him on the right side with his truck, the report said.

Worrell fell forward, and Summers revved the engine as if to run him over. In self-defense, Worrell picked up a vehicle jack stand and broke the driver’s window, causing $200 in damage. He sustained several scrapes on his left forearm and hands, although he was not sure if they were from falling or the broken glass, the report said…
