City considering $96,250 to settle retired Ocala police officer’s workers’ comp claims

City officials will consider a $96,250 settlement for a retired Ocala Police Department officer who is getting knee replacement surgery to address an injury she sustained during her 29-year career.

The Ocala City Council will consider the settlement to Patricia Mraz during its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 18. The item is part of the city’s consent agenda, which is enacted with one vote. The items are not voted on individually unless they are pulled from the agenda and set aside for additional discussion.

Mraz, who is 59 years old, was hired by OPD on March 11, 1996, and retired on July 31 of this year. According to a city staff report, Mraz experienced injuries on two separate dates during her nearly 30-year career: December 21, 2015, and February 13, 2018. The city asserted the statute of limitations against the 2015 date, but the 2018 date “remains compensable.”…
