Serving the Ozarks: Tee 1 D Diabetes Foundation

“Our young son was beginning to ask, “Why am I the only one who has to get shots? Why am I the only one who has to miss school to go to the doctor?”When Cannon Ebbrecht was diagnosed with type one diabetes at the age of four, the Ebbrecht family had to face a new reality.

“Diabetes is 24/7, and so middle of the night alarms go off, someone’s got to get up and go give fruit snacks to get blood sugar back up. Oh, his alarm is going off because he’s too high. Okay, now we got to give him some more insulin and bring him back down. And so it’s always a game trying to figure out get the levels right. And it’s just, I mean, a non-stop job.”

Trey Watson was 26 when he was first diagnosed. By navigating their diagnosis and realizing the need for better advocacy and support, the two families joined together to create the Tee 1 D Diabetes Foundation. Each year, they host many different events like their “friendsgiving” for families, and their “diabesties” can learn how to handle struggles with diabetes…
