Philander Smith University receives $19M, largest single contribution in school history

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – On Friday Philander Smith University officials announced that it had received a $19 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, the largest single contribution in the school’s history.

President and CEO of Philander Smith University, Maurice Gipson, J.D., Ph.D., said that the investment strengthens the university’s ability to advance its mission.

“This gift is a resounding vote of confidence in our mission and our momentum,” Gipson said. “It positions us to invest boldly in student success, facilities enhancement, and programs that prepare the next generation of Philander Smith leaders. We are profoundly grateful for this transformational support, which allows us to move Philander First with renewed purpose and vision.”
