LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A proposal to double fines for traffic violations that occur in school zones was presented on Thursday, and the urgency for changes was highlighted as Nevada lawmakers learned 189 students have been involved in collisions with vehicles so far this school year in Clark County.
The “shared community plan” in Assembly Bill 6 (AB6) could also give schools more flexibility on when those zones are active and how they are designed. Right now, it’s difficult for schools to get approval to make any changes.
The legislation is built on a collaboration between law enforcement and schools, along with city and county governments in Clark County. The Nevada Department of Transportation also participated.
