PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — In response to testimony from several residents who expressed concern for undocumented community members, Woodburn has paused usage of Flock Safety cameras.
On Tuesday, officials announced that they would stop using the technology that serves as an automated license plate reader for at least 60 days. This decision came a day after multiple people urged Woodburn City Council to take action amid ongoing activity from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“Our community has been experiencing attacks during the past few weeks,” a Woodburn High School student told councilors on Monday. “What is our city council doing to stop this? Where’s the action? Our community is doing all the work and contributing to end this, but I still don’t see our council doing this. Why? I demand a sanctuary resolution for our own, ensuring a safe and welcoming city. We need resources for our community who have been affected by ICE raids.”…
