The Tom and Jill Zidian Family Autism Center has opened on the Akron Children’s campus. The center is located at 130 W. Exchange St. in the renovated Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute. The $3.89 million project was funded by donors Tom and Jill Zidian. Akron Children’s employees and donors attended the opening event on November 7, 2025. The center began serving patient families on November 11.
The center’s design involved input from clinicians, patient families, and the design team. Dr. Allison Griesmer, a child and adolescent psychologist, noted the use of soft colors, gentle lighting, and sound-absorbing materials. Hallway nooks with textured walls were added to help children feel comfortable during visits.
