Man Convicted for Assault of Subway Security Worker at East Harlem Station Sentenced to 2-4 Years

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced that Alberto Jordan, 41, has been sentenced to 2 to 4 years in state prison following his conviction for the assault of a subway security employee. Jordan was found guilty by a jury on October 16, on charges including Attempted Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree.

The assault took place in November of last year at the 110th Street subway station in East Harlem, when Jordan attacked a security worker who was performing his duties. Bragg stated in a press release, “The defendant had several opportunities to comply with the worker’s requests to leave the station peacefully, but instead, reacted with violence.” The 55-year-old security worker confronted Jordan after he opened the emergency exit doors to aid fare evasion. After repeated refusals from Jordan, and following the worker’s return from a break, the situation escalated, resulting in the assault. Jordan was later found by police sleeping on a bench at the same station.

The DA’s office stated that the prosecution was handled by Assistant D.A. Davida M. Hawkes, under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Charles Whitt and Executive D.A. Lisa DelPizzo, with additional support from Trial Preparation Assistant Brandon Lee and Investigative Analyst Beatriz Fonts-Castillo.
