Officer confronts suspected thief about ‘free beverages’ she took from Wawa

A homeless woman in Leesburg was arrested for theft after walking out of Wawa with $6.98 in stolen beverages.

An officer responded to Wawa, located at 1909 U.S. Hwy. 27, for a theft involving 22-year-old Shalee Marie Casey around 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Clermont Police Department. An employee advised that she was outside the gas station talking to herself and had recently stolen from the business.

Indeed, the officer found her sitting outside with a $4.59 iced coffee, a $2.39 mixed icee and some food in front of her. He asked for her ID, but she stated she did not have it and wanted to know why he wanted it. He then confronted her about the “free beverages” she was enjoying, the report said.

Casey rebutted by saying she tried to pay for them, but no one tended to her. However, that Wawa had self-checkout kiosks that she was seen walking right past. She also had prior theft charges and a failure to appear in her criminal history, the report said…
