‘Seek higher ground:’ Officials extend flash flood warnings in Southern California

City officials issued a flash flood warning for Malibu and other Los Angeles areas on Saturday morning as heavy rain soaked Southern California, prompting urgent safety alerts and evacuation guidance for residents in burn scar and flood prone areas.

The warning was first issued in Malibu as the National Weather Service said flash flooding was already occurring in parts of southwestern Los Angeles County. Later on Saturday morning, the NWS issued more flash flood warnings for Los Angeles, Glendale and Santa Clarita. All warnings were set to expire at noon.

Malibu urged residents to “seek higher ground,” avoid all moving water and stay away from downed power lines as rain continues to fall across the region. City officials reiterated that people should never walk or drive through floodwaters and should follow all evacuation instructions from emergency personnel…
