Meet Amy Proffitt: Supporting Lincoln’s Science Focus Program and Local Students

This week, Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) is recognizing Amy Proffitt, the executive secretary at the Science Focus Program in Lincoln, Nebraska. Colleagues note her organizational skills, proactive work style, and positive attitude. As the only office professional at the Science Focus Program, Amy manages several responsibilities, including executive secretary, attendance secretary, registrar, bookkeeper, payroll manager, and health technician. She reports that she appreciates the variety in her daily work and the opportunities to learn new skills.

Amy has worked for LPS since 2008. She began at Lincoln Southeast High School and moved to the Science Focus Program in 2017. Although she originally planned to become a teacher, she finds her current position rewarding because it allows her to interact with students and families. Amy aims to maintain a safe and welcoming environment at the Science Focus Program.

Amy grew up in Lincoln and attended Ruth Hill Elementary, Pound Middle School, and Southeast High School. She was part of the first class at the Arts and Humanities Focus Program. She attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for two years before transferring to Colorado State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in fine art and art education.
